~ MOVE III ~

For my third move, I wanted to answer the following questions:

“How do teens feel about trends?”

“Does following trends make you a better or a worse person?”

I did this by creating a google survey and sending it out to the entire upper school, to which I got 70 responses.

The majority of my peers surveyed said that following trends does not make you a better or worse person, but that it only matters whether you are doing it for yourself or for others. In other words, most of my peers exhibited the “You do you” mentality. There were people on both extreme sides of the spectrum; Those who said following trends make you a bad person typically argued that they take away your own individuality, and those who said they make you a better person argued that they help you stay open to new things and be an active participant in your culture.

The most popular answer to my first question, “Do you use memes in your everyday conversations”, was “Not very often”, followed closely by “sometimes.” For my second question, “What social media sites do you use”, the most common answer was snapchat, followed very closely by instagram and youtube.

For my third question, “Why do you follow trends”, the most common answer was “I think they are funny/cool”, followed closely by “I like to use them to express myself.” For my fourth and final question, “Why do you not follow trends”, the most popular answer was an exact tie between “They are usually stupid” and “I think they take away your individuality.”
